Plasma TV’s are often referred to as plasma monitors. This is because much plasma TV doesn’t actually come with a pre-installed TV tuner. The Pioneer pdp-4350hd is a 43 inch plasma television system that is as close to perfection that you can come with a TV set. If you wonder what is so great about it, I will explain. First of all it is a TV which is super slim (3.7 inches in width), and thin enough to hang on your wall and it also look like it is a framed picture. The pdp-4350hd is a HDTV ready television. If you are a home theater freak, I suggest getting HDTV, the extra price you pay will be well worth it.

The other features include PIP (picture-in-picture) feature using which you can watch 2 channels at the same time with the dual picture mode. Color saturation and skin tone rendition were exceptional while watching movies. There was some visible noise though, even in brighter scenes with the HD content. An inability to produce deep blacks, along with the presence of visible low-level noise, is the pioneer’s only weaknesses.

Pioneer PDP-6020FD PLASMA TV

While some of the best competitive models can display blacks and shadows that are tremendous compared to older models, the new standard has arrived and it’s the PDP-6020FD where the black is black. Gone are the slight hints of gray or blue that we live with when viewing other models. The crisp details of the most subtle shadows are readily evident. This TV, in fact, takes the presentations of blacks and dark scenes to a whole new level.

While other sets may look great by themselves, they will pale alongside this device. Pioneer’s antiglare screen does a better job of reducing reflection, even in the brightest of lighting situations, than just about any TV that you might have encountered. Colors, particularly blacks, remain remarkable. Though there are many adjustments that can be made to the picture, there are somewhat fewer color customization features associated with the Pioneer than many other high end HDTVs. Pioneer recommends the Optimum setting which has the ability to adjust brightness and color based on both ambient lighting and the on screen content. The Movie mode is likely to be more appealing to many people, particularly for content that was filmed at 24 frames per second as movies generally are. The advanced mode is also worth a try for movies in that it changes the screen refresh mode to 72Hz, exactly three times the 24 frames per second speed, and tends to make movies look more like they were intended by the director.

We are very fond of the minimalist design of the TV with its simple piano black bezel. The adequate stereo speakers run across the base of the screen. The entire speaker bar can be removed from the unit making the design even more appealing. This would be a good option if the set is connected to a great audio/video receiver and surround sound speakers, something that most user of an HDTV of this quality would want to do anyway.

The Pioneer Home Media Gallery is available to play photographs, music or video content contained on a USB flash drive or a networked computer via an Ethernet connection.

There are three HDMI interfaces on the unit’s back panel with a fourth on the side for ease of access. The back panel also houses a component video input, an AV input, PC input, an input for cable or antenna, analog audio out and optical digital audio out. In general, it’s a great plasma TV for those who have the luxury of caring more about quality than price.
